Top 100 richest countries ranked by GDP per capita with a global economic map

Which countries have the highest economic output per person?

This ranking compares 100 sovereign countries using nominal GDP per capita, expressed in current U.S. dollars. GDP per capita is calculated by dividing a country’s economic output by its population; it is useful for comparing economies of different sizes, but it is not the same as personal wealth or average salary. What the Ranking Shows

Monaco ranks first at approximately $288,002 per person, followed by Liechtenstein at about $220,167 and Luxembourg at about $147,252. The World Bank currently reports Monaco’s figure as a 2024 observation, while Liechtenstein is also listed with a 2024 observation; Luxembourg’s figure is from 2025. World Bank Open Data

The United States ranks #9 at approximately $90,027 per person. That does not mean it has the ninth-largest total economy. GDP per capita and total GDP measure different things. The World Bank reports U.S. GDP per capita of $90,026.5 for 2025. World Bank Open Data

Ireland ranks #4 at about $131,593, while Luxembourg ranks #3. These figures illustrate why GDP per capita can produce a very different ranking from total economic size. World Bank Open Data

How to Interpret the Data

Nominal GDP per capita uses current prices and exchange rates. It does not adjust for differences in the cost of living between countries. The World Bank provides a separate PPP-based GDP-per-capita indicator for that purpose. World Bank Open Data

The ranking should therefore be treated as a comparison of economic output per person, rather than a direct ranking of where individuals are personally wealthiest.

There is also an important data-period consideration. The referenced Worldometer table identifies its 2025 ranking as a World Bank-based presentation but includes some entries marked with IMF, UN, or earlier-year references. Worldometer Consequently, the year “2025” should not be interpreted as meaning that every country in the 100-country list has an identical 2025 observation.

What Readers Should Know

  • Monaco is #1 in the supplied sovereign-country ranking, at approximately $288,002 GDP per capita, with the World Bank currently identifying that figure as a 2024 observation. World Bank Open Data
  • GDP per capita measures economic output per person, not the amount of money earned or owned by the average individual.
  • Reference years are not identical for every country; some entries rely on the latest available or alternative-source figures, so the table should not be interpreted as a perfectly uniform 2025 measurement for every country. Worldometer

Conclusion

The Top 100 ranking provides a useful snapshot of economic output per person across sovereign countries. Monaco, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg occupy the highest positions, while major economies such as the United States, Japan and China appear lower because GDP per capita accounts for population size.

For a broader assessment of prosperity, GDP per capita should be considered alongside purchasing power, household income, wealth distribution and living costs.
